Confront World is an NGO working in Japan and Africa for international cooperation with the goal of realizing a world without absurdity, meaning realizing a society where people’s lives and rights are guaranteed, and everyone can decide their future. Two missions of the NGO are helping people in difficult situations due to conflict and poverty become self-reliant and facilitating people’s social contribution by providing information and choices. Under the missions, students and adult staff members work together to build schools and improve sanitation facilities.
In the Butambala District, a rural area in the Republic of Uganda, people must walk two to three hours each way to draw water, and some children cannot even go to school. In addition, it has become more difficult for people to obtain soap and handwashing equipment due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Confront World would like to improve access to water by developing infrastructures and giving educational opportunities on hygiene to local communities in cooperation with local partners. In fiscal 2022, it constructed toilets for domestic use and water storage tanks and provided soap and handwashing equipment. For this fiscal year, it will continue promoting the project and engage in water infrastructure support to prevent infections in the area.
Confront World was established in 2019 with the goal of realizing a world without absurdity. While volunteering at an orphanage in Kenya, Akinori Arai, who would be the president of the NGO at a later time, faced the death of a child. This led him to be committed to the realization of a world without absurdity. The main activities of Confront World are improving the hygienic environment in Africa and raising awareness in Japan.
