Michibushinbito strives to develop appropriate technologies as an engineer and transfer and entrench them for local residents with the aim of encouraging the local people to resolve issues in developing countries on their own in a way suited to the region. Since the infrastructure, including farm roads, has yet to be developed in many developing countries, Michibushinbito is engaged in different activities with the central focus on the development of roads using the method(construction method using sandbags), which can be accessed by anyone. They also put efforts in improvement of the local living environment and the livelihoods of community members and planting activities.
There are hardly any public water supplies in Nakisunga in Mukono in the central region of the Republic of Uganda, and people rely on natural water resources for the daily life water supplies. Of 176 natural water resources, those under protection are 31, and only 0.17% of the total population of 48,320 has access to safe water. In this project, Michibushinbito constructs a water resource protection facility for a fountain in Nakisunga. Also, installation of water outlets in this region will distribute the concentrated water intake from the neighboring fountain and resolve the issue of overcrowded water supply points. Moreover, with the environmental club and PTA of the Namaqua Primary School, Michibushinbito will work on raising awareness towards conservation and the regeneration of forests in the region by carrying out seed raising and planning activities.
Michibushinbito was established in 2007 with the purpose of supporting the development and maintenance of farm roads by local farmers on their own for the revitalization of rural areas in developing countries and to contribute to the reduction of global poverty. Michibushinbito engages in road improvement projects all over the world, while developing a road development and maintenance method based on a Japanese traditional road construction technique using sandbagging method and introducing the Japanese ancient mindset of Michibushin (engaging in civil engineering work by widely asking and acquiring supports from people), which emphasizes the importance of developing and maintaining roads by local people on their own in a sustainable manner. As of December 2022, they were involved in activities in 31 countries, and the total length of roads they constructed became 231.37 kilometers.
