Clean water, hygienic toilets, and correct hygiene practices. By providing these three essentials of a healthy, dignified life, Water Aid is working to improve the lives of the world's poorest and socially marginalized people. Taking advantage of water and sanitation expertise, we are currently implementing water and sanitation projects in 26 countries, including Asia, Africa, and Latin America, based in 34 countries in the world.
Today, India faces the worst water shortage ever in its history. According to the Indian government, about 600 million people are experiencing severe water scarcity problems because of groundwater depletion caused by climate change. Also, the lack of a water examination system and damaged water supply facilities and pipes cause a lot of groundwater contamination by coliform bacteria, and more than 100,000 people die from waterborne diseases every year in India. In this project, Water Aid has formed a volunteer group consisting of the youth and females in the village to offer training sessions on water examination for the water data collection and to establish a system to implement measures based on the examination results. Moreover, Water Aid will strive to widely spread hygiene practices, such as hand washing, to allow people to live healthy with clean water and be prepared for potential future pandemics.
Water Aid is an international NGO specialized in water and sanitation and was established in the UK in 1981 with a vision to realize a world where everyone can access to safe sustainable water and sanitation and have hygiene practices everywhere. In the world, 771 million people are not able to access clean water and 1.7 billion are not able to access proper toilets. In order to end such a water and sanitation crisis, Water Aid Japan was established in 2013
