Born in 1967. After studying at the Catholic University of Chile, Aravena established his own firm in 1994. From 2000 to 2005, he served as a visiting professor at Harvard University Graduate School of Design, and is currently a professor at Catholic University. He has been a jury member for the Pritzker Prize since 2009, and was named an International Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects in 2010. Among the honors he has received are the Erich Schelling Foundation Architecture Medal in 2006, the Silver Lion for Promising Young Architect at the 11th Venice Biennale in 2008, the Avonni Prize and the Marcus Prize for Architecture in 2009, and the Brit Insurance Design Award (architecture category) in 2010. He was also selected as one of the 20 most outstanding young architects by the British magazine Icon in 2008, and has also delivered lectures throughout the world.
Since 2006, Aravena has served as Executive Director of ELEMENTAL S.A. A for profit company with social interests working in projects of infrastructure, transportation, public space and housing, partnering with the Catholic University of Chile and COPEC (Chilean Oil Company). http://www.alejandroaravena.com
