For the regions where international assistance is needed, we aim for sustainable development through supporting organizations that engage in water-related environmental activities related to water, rather than through providing temporary material/financial support.
In developing countries, many lives have been lost due to water shortages and bad hygiene environments. The burden of water drawing labor is a cause of poverty while taking educational opportunities away from children, and the lack of toilets makes women more prone as victims of sexual violence. This being the case, social problems in developing countries are often interrelated and require a careful approach. The TOTO Water Environment Fund is cooperating with partners contributing to the resolution of various problems in developing countries worldwide and aim to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations.
We think that to support the well-balanced development of infrastructure and human resources is more effective in solving real problems than to support infrastructure development only, such as the instalment of plumbing equipment. For the development of human resources, it is indispensable to cooperate with organizations that continuously support local communities by advocating the importance of sanitary living environment and by creating a system for local residents to manage and maintain such environments. The TOTO Water Environment Fund supports projects in which local residents manage and maintain sanitary living environment based on the understanding/education of its importance.
