Power to children for living by improving hygiene habits
Plan International Japan aims and works to realize a fair society where children's rights are protected, and girls are not discriminated against.
In this context, we are working to improve hygiene and secure safe water so that all children can grow healthy in a safe environment. Moreover, we offer support for every child to receive quality education equally and continuously and to be self-reliant in the future.
Working to improve hygiene practices in Vietnam
In the poorest area of Vietnam, children are always at risk of developing infectious diseases because residents without knowledge of hygiene and household toilets still engage in open defecation. Plan International Japan is providing training for obtaining hygiene habits and the technical guidance necessary for installing a toilet in this area. A sanitary environment has been achieved through the voluntary efforts of residents to install toilets, including digging holes and collecting locally available materials.
・I couldn’t invite friends to my house because I was ashamed that there was no toilet in my house. Now I can invite them as I have a toilet at home. I am very happy. (Child, female)
