World Assistance for Cambodia and Japan Relief for Cambodia
Richer environment and more educational opportunities for children
In order to provide education for children in the impoverished rural areas of Cambodia, World Assistance for Cambodia and Japan Relief for Cambodia have built and donated as many as 560 elementary and junior-high school buildings with the donations they raised from the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, and other sources. Furthermore, we are sending teachers specialized in the subjects of English and computers and providing scholarships and food service systems.
In addition, it is vital to have proper sanitation facilities for a comfortable time in school without hassles where students can concentrate on studying. For that purpose, we are also working to build wells and toilets.
Tree planting activities and environmental education in the rural area of Cambodia
In Cambodia, the decrease in the forest area due to felling is now a major issue. In order to raise children's environmental awareness, we work together with the children of elementary and junior high schools to grow saplings and plant them in and around the schoolyards. In addition, we are engaged in educational activities to teach children the importance of water and the environment.

・I learned that Moringa trees provide abundant nutrition and vitality. I want to plant one at home. (Junior high school first grader)
・I am happy that the school well has been repaired. Now I can use and drink water at school anytime. (5th grade elementary school girl)
・Thank you for repairing the toilet. (Elementary school teacher)
Organization history
Japan Relief for Cambodia was founded by Bernard Krisher, an American journalist and long-time resident of Japan, in 1993 in response to the request of the late King Sihanouk for support to restore and rebuild Cambodia, which had been devastated by 20 years of civil war. In 1998, Krisher founded American Assistance for Cambodia, which succeeded in obtaining global support for its activities. Accordingly, in 2012, American Assistance for Cambodia changed its name to World Assistance for Cambodia. Today, World Assistance for Cambodia and Japan Relief for Cambodia are non-profit organizations receiving support from Japan and the world.
Our programs are centered on assistance activities for the impoverished children of Cambodia but also include support in the fields of education, health and sanitation, rural development, and technology. Our activities are highly valued by the Cambodian government.
