Description of contents
Tadao Ando 5 was published from TOTO Publishing on October 21, 2022.
This is the fifth volume of a monograph series featuring the work of architect Tadao Ando. Picking up where Tadao Ando 4 left off, Tadao Ando 5 introduces 19 projects from 2014 to 2022 through a rich assortment of photographs, sketches, and plans.
The latest volume is subtitled "Dialogues" in a shift of tone from the previous volume's subtitle, "New Endeavors". It reflects the new height that the author has attained through engaging in dialogues with places, with people, and with architecture since making his return to the creative front after overcoming two major surgeries. This book offers a look into how he has been grappling with the recent changes that have occurred both in his personal life and in society.
Among the newest of Ando's projects featured in this book are the Bourse de Commerce (Paris), which he converted into a contemporary art museum while preserving the value of the historic monument, and the Nakanoshima Children's Book Forest (Osaka), which he planned, designed, and donated to the city of Osaka to give back to the community where he grew up.
Ando's tireless passion for design and eagerness to take on new challenges inspires courage and teaches much about the value of imagining, thinking, and putting ideas into action. This book is hence a recommended read for those both in and outside the architecture field.
