Kazuo Shinohara

Unbuilt and Yet Unbuilt

'94 May 10-Jun.11

The displays in this exhibition share the same quality as the works themselves, insofar as they express Shinohara's conviction that the fewer the conditions placed upon the structures, the more inflential power they possess. The exhibition presents models of nine of Shinohara's projects, arranged systematically in a straight line, including several of his competition plans from the 1980s' such as "Euralille Hotel + Office Project"(1989-92), and residential additions. The wall depicts a large plan cross-section with a pop-art color scheme. It's clear, elementary geometrical form leaves a vivid impression, which relative to its coloring, seek to dissolve any simple readings of his work.
