Autonomous Serfaces

'88 May 10-Jun.8

Each one of eight respective motifs printed upon cloth by the artist stands independently. The display is organized to produce a spacial opposition between interior and exteior. Inside the gallery, an extremely fine pattern is spread across the soft surface of cloth displayed throughout the gallery. Outside, however, a pattern is printed on a glass surface to give a sense of dimensional depth and produce a complex series of undulations. The exhibition emphasizes how the decorations covering the material are linked to space, rather than simply focusing on the functional aspect of the material alone.
