- Won the City Planning Institute of Japan Prize and the Fujita Prize of Municipal Census Association for "Historical Research of City Planning in the Meiji Period".
- 1983
- Won the Mainichi Publication Culture Award for "History of Tokyo City Planning".
- 1985
- Became Associate Professor, Institute of Industrial Science, University of Tokyo.
- 1986
- Won the Japan Inter-Design Forum Awards and the Santory Prize for Social Sciences and Humanities for "Adventure of Detective Architect".
- 1997
- Won the Japan Art Grand Prix for "Leek House".
- Presently
- Professor, Institute of Industrial Science, University of Tokyo.
