Santiago Calatrava was born in Spain in1951. He studied art and architecture in Valencia and then pursued a degree in civil engineering at the ETH in Zurich. After graduation he worked as an assistant at the Institute for Building Statics and Construction, and the Institute for Plane Statics and Light Construction at ETH. At present he has offices in Paris, Zurich, and Valencia where he works on a number of large scale structural architectural projects mostly in Europe. He holds honorary doctorates from Valencia University and Seville University and is an honorary member of the British Association of Architects and the German Federation of Architects.
