Adjacent to Shuzenji Onsen, Mount Hankeiji boasts a rich forest and streams where Genji fireflies thrive. Based on the belief that protecting these headwaters will lead to the regeneration of the entire watershed, conservation activities and environmental education using specialized environmental restoration methods are promoted in this satoyama (traditional rural landscape) which has been certified as a nature coexistence site. Together with the local community, the aim is to build a future where people can say, "It's so much better now."

Activity Period: April 2026 - March 2027
Activity Area: Izu City, Shizuoka Prefecture
Activity Details: Aiming to maintain the habitat and increase the population of Genji fireflies that grow wild in the headwater forest, biotopes will be created along mountain streams. Through restoration of Satoyama (village forests and surrounding landscapes) and awareness-raising activities, the project seeks to improve the environment of the entire basin and pass on the forest's nature to the next generation.
