Introduction of group activities

We will address the problems surrounding fisheries in the Genkai region of Saga Prefecture, including rising sea temperatures, coastal barrenness, and marine plastic waste. Our pillars will be promoting fish consumption, supporting the sixth-sector industrialization of fisheries, and conservation projects for fishing grounds, thereby promoting the sound management of fishing households. We will also support the creation of a sustainable fisheries system by maintaining the function of the region as a production base and preventing the depopulation of fishing villages.

Activity Period: April 2026 - March 2027
Activity Area: Karatsu City, Saga Prefecture
Activity Details: Addressing the expanding disappearance of seaweed beds, which are vital fisheries resources in the sea of Karatsu, the project aims to restore these beds by removing the herbivorous animals responsible for the damage and introducing mother algae to attach to the seabed. Furthermore, the project conducts regular monitoring surveys and implements hands-on environmental learning courses for local elementary and junior high school students.
