TOTO has been working toward SOFC technology for high-efficiency, eco-friendly power generation. In 1990, we began doing the basic research, which led to an inexpensive cell production method with our original wet processing technique using ceramic ware production technology. We subsequently undertook R&D of stack modules and have been working to launch stack module products for residential SOFC systems.
Going forward, we will verify operating performance, durability and energy conservation under field trials in family homes, feed the acquired data and knowledge back to system development, and continue development with the goal of achieving practical products at an early date.
Fuel cells conserve energy and are eco-friendly
Fuel cells, are power generation systems that generate electricity through the chemical reactivity of hydrogen and oxygen.Ordinary power generation systems generate both electricity and heat. Conventional power generation systems, in which the power station is far away from where the electricity is used, end up wasting the heat. Fuel cells that generate electricity where it is used (such as the home) allow the heat to be used, for example, to warm water. This helps reduce emissions of CO2, a cause of global warming.
What's inside an SOFC?
An SOFC consists of a fuel cell unit and a hot water storage unit.
