Introduction of group activities

Kurashi-Tsunagaru Mori Sato Kawa Umi

In 2001, through a collaborative project with the government, we established Banyu Waterside School, a natural playground along the lower reaches of the Banyu River (a tributary of the Sagami River) where people can connect with nature. This site, once a place for illegal dumping, has been restored into a natural environment teeming with life.
At Banyu Waterside School, in addition to conservation activities, we offer a variety of environmental education programs primarily for children. We are also working to transform the area into a field museum (a natural ecological garden) to serve as a hub for local environmental learning activities.

20th Grant Project

Shonan Ikimono Gakkou Project: Healthy Children, Living Things and Local Communities

Activity Period: April 2025 - March 2026
Activity Area: Hiratsuka City, Kanagawa Prefecture
Activity Details: We will develop a variety of environmental education activities to deepen children's connection with nature. This includes creating butterfly gardens and restoring a frog pond with community participation. We will also work on "eco-upgrades" for the new dragonfly pond, which was specifically created for observing wildlife.

16th Grant Project

Shonan Ikimono Gakkou Project: Healthy Children, Living Things and Local Communities

Activity Period: April 2021 - March 2024
Activity Area: Hiratsuka City, Kanagawa Prefecture
Activity Details: We aim to transform the Banyu Waterside School into a field museum. To achieve this, we will launch a "Visible Project" with citizen participation to develop its functions as a natural ecological garden. Based on the concept that "forests and oceans are connected," we will carry out environmental conservation and education activities in the Sagami River basin.
Through these activities, we will not only build a sustainable long-term management system for the Banyu Waterside School but also foster new environmental citizens. This will, in turn, strengthen our organization's operational foundation.
