CO2 emissions from our business sites in FY2022 totaled 267,000 tons. Although production activities have become more active due to increased global demand, we have been working to reduce CO2 emissions toward the FY2023 target by improving productivity, promoting energy conservation measures, and expanding renewable energy.
Two years have passed since the plan to reduce CO2 emissions through measures toward FY2023, and the cumulative amount of CO2 emissions has been reduced by 89,000 tons.
Toward the realization of a carbon-neutral and sustainable society in 2050, we will promote CO2 reduction through the introduction of renewable energy and other measures that exceed the increase in CO2 emissions due to business expansion, aiming to reduce CO2 emissions to 259,000 tons or less in FY2023.

We are accelerating a fuel conversion to fuel and electricity with low CO2 emissions used in our business activities.Melting facilities in NANJING TOTO Co., Ltd., used in a casting process of enameled products, such as bathtubs and washbowls, were changed from cupola furnaces to electric ones in 2018, which had contributed significantly to improvement in energy efficiency and reduction in CO2 emissions in production by the conversion of energy for the equipment from coke to electricity. This re-equipping is also expected to prevent air pollution in the surrounding area of the factory.
We are also working on electrification of air conditioning systems and cafeteria kitchens in newly constructed plants.
In order to reduce CO2 emissions, we are strengthening building insulation (using roof insulation, wall insulation, and double-glazing), using high-efficiency air conditioners and total heat exchangers, adopting LED lighting, and introducing energy monitoring systems at our plants in Japan and overseas.
Procurement of renewable energy
The TOTO Group is accelerating its efforts to realize a carbon-neutral and sustainable society, and expanding the use of renewable energy is indispensable for reducing CO2 emissions.
We will further expand the procurement of renewable energy sources according to regional characteristics at each of our global sites and install solar power generation equipment at our plants, aiming to use 100% renewable energy for electricity in our business activities by 2040. In March 2021, we became a member of RE100, an international initiative that aims to use 100% renewable energy for the electricity used in our business activities.

The amount of renewable energy electricity introduced in fiscal 2022 was over 166GWh globally.
Introduction of renewable energy facilities
By fiscal 2022, solar power generation facilities will have been installed in Japan at TOTO's Kokura Plant No. 1, TOTO Museum, Chigasaki Plant, Shiga Plant, and TOTO MTEC Corporation, and overseas TOTO (BEIJING) Co., Ltd. and TOTO Malaysia.Overseas, solar power generation facilities have been installed at TOTO Kiki Beijing and TOTO Malaysia.
The TOTO Group conducts internal energy conservation audits at its manufacturing and distribution bases in Japan. Based on a set of evaluation indicators common to the Group, energy management specialists conduct comprehensive evaluations of processes, such as the energy management status of production equipment and facilities (air conditioning, lighting, and infrastructure equipment) and compliance with laws and regulations, as well as performance, such as efficient production and active energy-saving activities. The sites that meet these standards are certified as TOTO Green Factories.
State of energy saving diagnostics
The TOTO Group promotes energy conservation activities at each of its business sites.
Looking at our monthly performance management, we visualize power use in each workplace based on the data from our data collection system, which centrally manages data concerning the amount of energy used all Group Companies. Energy conservation measures are being driven at each of our office and bases by the feedback this enables.
For TOTO Group initiatives in Japan during seasons with a heavy air-conditioning load, we come into line with the Ministry of the Environment-let initiative, COOL Choice, to conduct Cool biz and Warm biz as an energy-saving activity. In the future, besides working to ensure sustained inculcation of environmental consciousness among all TOTO employees, TOTO will also continue to implement organizational measures to help combat the effects of global warming .

We are promoting initiatives to reduce CO2 emission of company cars by reducing fuel usage. Through creating TOTO's own eco drive system for company cars used in Group companies in Japan, we are improving the eco driving skill by enabling drivers to see the fuel consumption. In addition, standards for purchasing vehicles are formulated to purchase vehicles that are optimum depending on its travel distance and frequency of usage and reduce fuel consumption.
As for the new plant, we have installed the latest and most advanced production equipment to improve productivity. At the same time, building insulation has been strengthened (roof insulation, wall insulation, and double-glazing), production air conditioning has been optimized and total heat exchangers have been adopted, LED lighting has been adopted, and an energy monitoring system has been installed to make the plant more environmentally friendly with lower CO2 emissions.
The new west building at TOTO's Shiga Plant was equipped with high-efficiency equipment such as a latest fiber kiln and LED lighting, and exterior walls were coated with Hydrotect Color Coat, an environmental building material that is TOTO's one-of-a-kind technology. As a model factory project that introduced cutting-edge energy-saving technologies, the Shiga Factory received the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award, the highest award in the Energy Conservation Case Study Category of the 2013 Energy Conservation Grand Prize (sponsored by the Energy Conservation Center, supported by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry).
The TOTO Group is developing similar energy-saving factories in Japan and overseas.
