The activities of the Hope International Development Agency are based on the conviction that no matter where one lives, every human being should be guaranteed the basic rights that one needs for living and be given opportunities to fully demonstrate one’s abilities. Hope is engaged in projects that enable the poorest people in developing countries to acquire skills and knowledge, as well as development activities that create economically independent communities by utilizing extant resources.
In the rural communities of the southern provinces of Ethiopia, consisting of a number of ethnic minorities, residents hardly have access to support from outside. Elementary schoolchildren in those areas have been using poorly built, unsanitary toilets. In this project, Hope will work together with parents, teachers, and other residents of the areas to install school toilets and handwashing facilities. Furthermore, Hope will provide hygiene education training for teachers, as well as teaching children hygiene practices that include toilet management and handwashing. At schools where toilets were installed in the fiscal 2021 project, Hope will support children to take initiatives in educational activities to promote the use of toilets in order to eliminate outdoor excretion.
The Hope International Development Agency was established in the wake of the international disaster emergency relief for the great earthquake in India in 2000 and registered as a certified NPO in 2013. Currently, as an international cooperation organization, Hope is providing support to people in developing countries in the form of various international development projects, such as community development support projects in India and Ethiopia, an education support project in the Philippines, a health and nutrition management promotion project in Cambodia, a water supply project in Ethiopia, and an emergency relief project for major earthquakes.
