Seeking to reduce waste at construction sites, TOTO formulated its own packaging design guidelines based on the 3Rs (reduce, reuse, recycle).
In fiscal 2022, we have achieved reduction rate of 10.2% compared to the 2013 level by changing packaging materials, etc..
Reduce: Lessen the amount of packaging materials Examples: Simple packaging, no packaging, set packaging Reuse: Using the same packaging materials repeatedly Example: Returnable box Recycle: Concern for recycling Examples: Using recyclable materials, or devising a product configuration that allows easier separation of the materials at the time of disposal
Reduction rate for domestic packaging materials (compared to FY2009)
The award winning Corrugated Cardboard Cushioning Material with a Freely Adjustable Angle is a cushioning material to be placed under the bottom of a wash basin. Even if it has localized protrusions, it achieves a load bearing structure that utilizes the properties of the rigid porcelain by placing layered cushioning material along the shape of the porcelain. It also achieves reduction of the amount of cardboard use by approximately 30% compared to the conventional packaging. Changing the position of the notches enables the angle to be freely adjusted and the angle of a stopper to be maintained while preventing the material from falling or slipping. TOTO aims to realize higher packaging quality with less resources and performs packaging design in-house. TOTO will continue to pursue fair packaging for saving more resources and energy in the New Shared Value Creation Strategy TOTO WILL 2030 established with an aim to realize a sustainable society and achieve clean, comfortable, and healthy lifestyles by 2030.
Development of Corrugated Cardboard Cushioning Material with a Freely Adjustable Angle
The TOTO Group used to use box shaped cardboard packaging to pack a product with many protrusions and edges in the bottom part of the wash basin and had issues that more cardboard was needed to pack a large wash basin. Therefore, we successfully reduced the amount of cardboard use by approximately 30% compared to the conventional structure by placing layered cushioning material along the shape of the porcelain and achieving strength close to that of a compressive load-balancing load directly received by the porcelain even when packing porcelain with localized protrusions. Changing the position of the notches enables the angle to be freely adjusted and the angle of a stopper to be maintained while preventing the material from falling or slipping.
